Happy New Year
The celebration of the New Year is the oldest of all holidays. Beginning in about 2000 BC, the ancient Babylonians celebrated the New Year on what is now March 23. The Romans continued to observe the holiday on March 25 until the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the New Year.
The tradition of making New Year’s resolutions also dates back to the early Babylonians whose most popular resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment.
The Greeks first used a baby as a symbol of the New Year around 600 BC. During the festival of Dionysus, they carried a baby in a basket to symbolize the annual rebirth of that god. Early Egyptians also used a baby as a symbol of rebirth.
On a contemporary note, we wish you all a healthy & Happy New Year!
